The Mindfulness Solution to Pain: Step-by-Step Techniques for Chronic Pain Management by Dr. Jackie Gardner-Nix has a simple theoretical premise which is difficult, but not impossible, to put into practice. This is necessarily the case, for mindfulness demands a great deal of focused attention. It takes practice and work.One of the chief insights in this book is that physical pain and our mental states go hand in hand. Pain is a physiological response to something wrong with our bodies, certainly, but equally important in this equation is how we frame the experience of pain in our minds.This book sets out many techniques on how to frame, or re-frame, our experience of pain. This is helpful for alleviating our pain level. Even sitting still with our pain, allowing it to happen, not fighting it or judging it, is helpful, and a great start.

This book was recommended to me by the psychologist who works with the pain clinic I go to. It provided the prefect overview of how mindfulness can allow you control over your pain, a kind of control that those of us who suffer from pain may never have thought possible. The major lesson of this book is that you can control your pain instead of allowing your pain to control you.

The book offers valuable lessons in the benefits of mindfulness, especially for pain management.At the start of the book I felt the author was trying a little too hard to sell the benefits of mindfulness, by providing examples of extraordinary successes. But the remainder of the book is about practical step-by-step mindfulness and body scans, to help anyone because more aware of his or her body and its feelings.

Though I haven't been good about meditating every day, I have taken many beneficial nuggets of information in this book to help me on my healing journey with fibromyalgia. I do need to find the time to meditate, as I think it would greatly improve my well-being.

Recommended by my occupational therapist after a very big spinal fusion surgery. I have done mindfulness practices before using Pema Chrodon books.I enjoyed the way this book uses dialog from real people using this program for relief from chronic pain.

As a PT, I highly recommend this book for both the health practitioner and the patient. Excellent read.

I highly recommend this book for anyone battling chronic pain. It not only helps you manage it; but also crystalises some answers to the "why" question. Mindfulness helps you manage life and pain in a way that allows you to find contentment. This book helped me understand why my pain is chronic when others heal in a shorter time. For me it provided practical applications for exisiting knowledge of mindfulness; but it would still be an easy read for someone new to the concept. Jenny

Being in chronic pain for over four years from a gross malpractice of a Nuerosurgeon has changed my life. Learning these skills taught in this book are like learning to play the piano, it takes time. Learning these skills has shown promise to me where strong medicine side effects are almost as bad as the pain. Recommend not just the book, but following mindfulness, self hypnosis, and finding joy in-spite of constant pain.
