Pamela Douglas is an award-winning writer with numerous credits in television drama. Super helpful for a screenwriter getting into the TV form. I love that it includes and dissects example scripts. It helps support the chapter, and also lets me get to know the nuances about how differently film scripts are written than TV. It talks about comedy and drama, and is helpful in both. That said, both seem a bit outdated - TV is shifting to be more serial than before, and this is continuing emphasize the unchangingness of series.
I am kind of dissapointed because I thought it would give some advise on how to write series. It talks more about the enviorment of the job than actual excercises for writing a procedural or series.
This 4th Edition tops what was already the industry "bible." It's got everything you need to write for television or work in it in any way. A great and encompassing update. This is the one to have.

Nearly anything you could want to know about writing TV drama is in this book, especially the facts of how the industry works. Easy to read, fast paced, extremely interesting. Exciting interviews and comments from the current leading writers in TV are included throughout. I highly recommend this book.
Really basic instruction and more of a CV at times. There are quite a few discouraging remarks, basically telling the reader that not only do they have to live in LA to be successful but also have to work specifically in TV if they want to get a script made. Story Maps: TV Drama, by Daniel Calvisi, was more constructive and informative.
